Mallory's Story

Name: Mallory Smith
Hometown: Tacoma, WA
Competition Event: Cycling

Mallory has been competing in Golf, Cycling, Bowling, and Basketball with Special Olympics for over six years. This will be her first year competing for team USA at the Special Olympics World Games: “I’m really excited to compete on a world level. I feel special to be chosen.”

Not only has Mallory been successful in sports, but she has also been successful in her involvement with her community. She currently works at Alphabet Preschool and Learning Center as a teacher’s assistant; and was recognized as an outstanding graduate by the school district Board of Directors for her leadership qualities.

Her commitment to Special Olympics has reached beyond sporting events. Mallory has recently taken on the roll of Special Olympics Spokesperson, allowing her to share her experiences with others, and expand her personal growth while advocating for the needs of Special Olympics athletes everywhere.  Mallory recently spent time in Washington D.C., lobbying legislators for continued financial support for Special Olympics programs worldwide.

When she’s completed her daily training regimen, Mallory loves to spend her extra energy pursuing her interests in singing, karate, traveling, and dancing.
